New York University does not offer grade forgiveness: every attempt at a course counts toward your GPA. When a course is repeated, both grades are recorded and computed in the GPA; degree credit is earned only once. In the College of Arts & Science a course may be repeated only once, and no more than two courses total across the undergraduate career. NYU is decentralized — repeat rules are set per school; this reflects CAS.
- Policy: No grade replacement (both attempts count)
- Both attempts count in the GPA
- Both attempts stay on the transcript
- Check the registrar for course-specific limits
