Spark plug gaps vary by engine and ignition system type. Most modern gasoline engines use gaps between 0.028 and 0.060 inches (0.7–1.5 mm). Check your owner’s manual, the emissions sticker under the hood, or an OEM parts catalog like NGK or Autolite for the exact specification.
- Most 4-cylinder engines: 0.039–0.043 in (1.0–1.1 mm)
- V6 and V8 engines: 0.035–0.045 in (0.9–1.1 mm)
- Turbocharged engines: 0.024–0.032 in (0.6–0.8 mm)
- High-energy ignition systems allow wider gaps
- Supercharged/nitrous engines require tighter gaps
