Standard 6×6″ origami squares yield 1 per 8.5×11″ sheet. 100 sheets cost $15 in a 100-pack of 65 lb cardstock.
You can cut 2 A2 cards from a single 8.5×11″ sheet of cardstock. An A2 card folded is 4.25×5.5″, so the flat blank is 8.5×5.5″ — two fit lengthwise on one letter-size sheet with zero waste.

80 lb cardstock is the most popular weight for handmade cards. It's sturdy enough to stand on its own but still feeds through most home printers. Go heavier (100–110 lb) for premium or layered cards, lighter (65 lb) for inserts.
Envelopes should be approximately 0.25″ larger than the card on each side. An A2 card (4.25×5.5″) fits in a 4.375×5.75″ envelope. An A7 card (5×7″) needs a 5.25×7.25″ envelope.
Cardstock costs $0.15–$0.40 per sheet depending on weight and quantity, making each card base $0.08–$0.40 in paper alone. Including envelopes, embellishments, and ink, a typical handmade card costs $0.50–$2.00 versus $3–$7 store-bought.
8.5×11″ is generally better for A2 cards since two fit per sheet with no waste. 12×12″ is better for square cards and scrapbook pages. Most card makers keep both sizes on hand for different projects.
