Add the dry weight of the boat, motor weight, fuel weight (gallons × 6.1 lbs for gasoline), gear and equipment weight, and the trailer weight. This total must not exceed your tow vehicle’s maximum towing capacity rating.
- Total = boat + motor + fuel + gear + trailer weight
- Gasoline weighs 6.1 lbs per gallon (50 gal = 305 lbs)
- Don’t forget coolers, tackle, water, and safety equipment (100–300 lbs)
- Trailer weight includes winch, spare tire, and tongue jack
- A 4,500 lb boat + 500 lb motor + 305 lb fuel + 200 lb gear + 1,200 lb trailer = 6,705 lbs total
