For standard event lighting, plan 0.15–0.25 feet of string lights per square foot of venue. An 80×50 ft ballroom (4,000 sq ft) needs about 600 feet of bistro lights. Barn venues need more string lights (0.25 ft per sq ft) to create a warm atmosphere.
