Rugby union has four ways to score: a try (5 points) for grounding the ball in the in-goal area, a conversion kick (2 points) after a try, a penalty kick (3 points) for opponent infractions, and a drop goal (3 points) kicked during open play.
- Try: 5 points (must ground ball in in-goal area)
- Conversion: 2 points (kick after try, from where try was scored)
- Penalty kick: 3 points (awarded for opponent fouls)
- Drop goal: 3 points (kicked during open play, must hit ground first)
- Maximum from one try sequence: 7 points (try + conversion)
